1.

How often should carpet be cleaned?  It is harmful to clean too much?

The general rule for carpet cleaning is once a year.  This number is flexible based on several factors.  Do you vacuum at least once a week?  Do you wear shoes in the house?  Do you have children or pets?  Everyone's situation is different.  Some carpets should be cleaned every 3 or 4 years, and some should be cleaned 3 or 4 times a year. Cleaning is not harmful to the carpet.  Our carpet cleaning is non-abrasive and all the chemicals are rinsed from the carpet to prevent re-soiling.  Dirt is what causes wear to the carpet, so vacuuming and cleaning will preserve the life of your carpet.

2.

How long does the carpet take to dry after it's been cleaned?

This depends on several factors.  We extract as much water as possible during the cleaning to expedite the drying time.  Generally drying time is from 4-7 hours.  As long as you wear something clean on your feet it is OK to walk on the carpet immediately, although we recommend staying off it for at least an hour.  If the carpet has a more dense construction, it will dry faster.  If it's raining or very humid outside during the cleaning, it will take longer for the carpet to dry.

3.

We have water in the basement, what do we do?

The most important thing in a flood is to dry the carpet as quickly as possible.  Use a wet vac, fans and a dehumidifier if possible.  Make sure you get anything off the floor that could mold, like cardboard boxes.

4.

What about mold?

Despite what you may have heard, mold is very rare.  Mold needs certain conditions to grow.  It needs to be dark, damp and the air has to be stagnant.  Use fans to move the air around, leave lights on, and get up as much of the water as you can.  Generally, if you can get the carpet dry in less than a week, you should not have a problem.  You can expect a musty smell as the carpet dries, but this is nothing to worry about.  If you can get some fresh air in the basement, it will help.  Of course you can always call us to extract the water or answer any questions you have.

5.

What's the difference between your fabric protection and other companies?

We use a solvent based protector.  This is the safest and most effective product available.  Because there is no water in the sealant, we can protect any fabric including silk and other delicate materials.  Many other companies use a water based product.  These are less expensive, but don't last as long or protect as well.

6.

If my furniture or carpet is protected, what do I do if I get a spot?

Blot the area with a white towel and call us.  There is no charge for spotting on carpet or furniture we have protected.  There is a charge if the area needs extensive spotting or complete cleaning.

7.

How do I get the smell out of carpet from pet urine?

The first step is always to clean the affected area.  It then depends on how deep the urine has penetrated.  Each level has to be deodorized. The first level is the top of the carpet, then the backing of the carpet, then the pad and lastly the flooring.  If the spot has gone through the carpet we can inject deodorizer into the backing or the pad. That is the simplest method.  The most effective method is to peel back the carpet and treat the backing, pad and flooring.
